A TEENAGER who assaulted a woman 'over the head of a boy' has been given six months to clean up her act.

Natalie Dalton, of Belmont Avenue, Ayr admitted seizing the woman by the hair, pulling her to the floor and punching her at Elliots in Prestwick on July 2.

The 18-year-old appeared before Sheriff Mhari Mactaggart at Ayr Sheriff Court last week.

Depute fiscal Scott Toal said: "The complainer is an 18-year-old female and was in the pub at Prestwick. Ms Dalton pulled her to the floor and pushed her two or three times.

"A member of staff called for the security. Police officers were contacted. They took statements but this incident was not caught on CCTV. The complainer had a small cut on her forehead. The accused was cautioned and charged."

Speaking on her behalf, defence solicitor Lauren Fowler, said: "She is 18-years-old and studying at Glasgow Caledonian University. She comes from a good family. The background to this was that they were arguing over a boy.

"This accumulated. She is very sorry for her actions. This is an isolated incident and she explained her position from the outset."

Sheriff Mactaggart addressed the dock: "You now have a criminal conviction in the long term. Whatever you do, I hope it doesn't affect your career."

Dalton's sentence has been deferred for her to be of good behaviour. Her bail has been continued.
