AYRSHIRE LGBTQ has called for South Ayrshire Council to introduce gender neutral titles following the implementation of them by Oxford City Council in England.

This month, Oxford City Council announced that the gender neutral title “Mx” would be introduced to paperwork to accompany terms such as “Mr, Mrs, Miss and Ms” and Ayrshire LGBTQ feel this move would be beneficial to South Ayrshire and Ayrshire as a whole.

A spokesperson for LGBTQ said: “We as a progressive group are supportive and encourage South Ayrshire Council to pursue any moves to encourage gender neutrality and any other moves that would reduce gender barriers. In doing so they would demonstrate that they are moving towards becoming one of the most inclusive councils in Scotland.”

A spokesperson from South Ayrshire council said: “We will continue to work with partners to progress this.”
