POLICE are appealing for witnesses after eight cars were vandalised on Troon's Barassie Street during the Open.

The Ayr Advertiser Series believes that the spate of vandalism occurred between 9pm on Friday, July 15 and 6am on Saturday, July 16.

Local officers have described the instrument used as a bottle opener or a similar device which caused 'extensive' damage to these vehicles.

A spokesperson from Ayr Police Office said: "We understand these incidents happened at the time of the golf during the Troon Open but it is not clear if this has got anything to do with the golf tournament itself."

It is claimed one blue and one silver Audi, one red and one blue Vauxhall, two BW Volkswagens one which was black, one blue Citroen and one blue ford were targeted by the vandals.

It is understood there are no suspects at this time but police are urging anyone in the area at that time who noticed any suspicious behaviour to get in touch via the non emergency number on 101.

Alternatively they can contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 where anonymity can be maintained.
