TROON'S new Costa has now installed sensory doors which act as disabled access to the coffee shop.

The Troon Times previously reported how Costa, which sits on 6, Centre Academy, Academy Street and opened in April, lacked the essential factor.

But on Tuesday, June 7 just a few weeks after concern was raised, these new doors were installed which means customers can press a disabled button and the door open automatically.

Cllr Nan McFarlane praised the work that has been carried out: "I want to commend the hard work that has been carried out to fix this problem and the speed at which it has been done.

"I have looked at the original plans which made it look Costa would have been built on the ground instead of on a raised kerb."

Red Button, Landlords of the site where Costa and the other shops sit, have agreed to remove two parking spaces which prevent access to the coffee shop.

In its place there will be one disabled parking bay, with a yellow hatch area and a drop kerb. It is hoped work for this will be carried out soon.

Cllr McFarlane added: "There are four entrances to the site but the only access point which is wheel chair friendly is on Church Street. I am going to take this one step further and see if I can get disabled access at those other entrances."

There will also be a change in bin services for Costa who have their bins collected six mornings a week at 6am. A new bin company will now collect rubbish at the same time three days a week and more bins have been provided to Costa.

It is hoped this will help reduce the noise and disturbance to locals.
