A MAN who struck a glass table with a hammer and threatened to damage the neighbour's car made a call to police to try to blame it on the woman he was living with.

The 22-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, pleaded guilty to behaving in an aggressive manner, likely to cause fear or alarm while uttering threats, when he appeared at Ayr Sheriff Court last week.

The court heard the incident happened at an Ayr address on April 9.

Depute Fiscal Mhairi Mair said: “The accused went to get something from the kitchen but began opening drawers violently, increasingly upsetting the children, and was asked to leave. He took the hammer and said he was going to damage the neighbour's car.

"The witness contacted the police, as did the accused to tell them she was going to damage the neighbour's car.”

Speaking on his behalf, defence solicitor John Gallagher said his client could be made homeless due to this flare-up.

He said: “This is a strange set of circumstances. He fully accepts his actions and has pleaded guilty. He says he was stressed and that is not something you do not hear of. He is working for a landscaping company and wants to address these issues.”

Sheriff Mhairi MacTaggart said: “I understand from your point of view you want a conclusion. This was a very good report on your behalf.

“If by this Thursday, you are homeless this will put you under stress. I do not want you to act in this way.

"I am going to keep an eye on you and make sure you do not act in this way because you are stressed.”

Sentence has been deferred.
