VISITORS to Culzean Castle and Country Park will be able to treat themselves to whisky or prosecco at the gift shop.

The proposals were passed at a recent licensing board meeting last Thursday, April 21 which heard Culzean Castle is a managed visitor and tourist attraction for families and groups of all ages.

The gift shop, which will be rehomed in the castle itself, already sells many products but shelves will be stacked with Scottish whisky and National Trust branded prosecco.

Hotel on sale licensing will also increase from 11am until midnight from Monday to Saturday and 12.30pm until midnight on a Sunday to 11am-1am daily and will include a mini bar in all hotel bedrooms.

Additional buildings on the grounds will also run on these terms including the Old Coach House and Orangery.

Camellia House Addition of Old Stables Coffee House will also be included but will change its name to “Culzean Castle”.

Members of the board were reassured proposals would reflect licensing rules and not breach their objectives.

Cllr Convery said: “I am not sure if this [Culzean] is the most popular in Scotland. It may well be but it was for a long time.

“I imagine funding for Culzean is substantial and I think that anything that is likely to increase it is welcome.”

Cllr Mark Kilpatrick added: “I agree with what I think councillor Convery just said. I think plans are very exact.”

Chairwoman, Cllr Ann Galbraith concluded: “There are many changes and as Cllr Kilpatrick said –good luck with all of them.”
