A brief traveller’s guide to Boston

As the largest city in New England and the historic capital of Massachusetts, Boston is a city that is steeped in tradition and has plenty to offer visitors from across the globe. With over 16 million visitors to the city every year it ranks in the top ten most popular tourist cities in the United States.

The city’s close links to Harvard and MIT, two of the world’s most prestigious universities, has created a vibrant, cosmopolitan atmosphere that visitors always enjoy.

Boston’s sporting heritage is one that puts the region on the map. The city’s beloved Red Sox are one of the most successful American Baseball teams of all time, along with the New England Patriots who have also become a dominant force in American Football in recent years.

Aside from sports there is lots to see and do with big-city entertainment as well as quaint side streets that gives Boston top marks for its culture and hospitality. On the topic of hospitality there is an unrivalled choice of Boston hotels within the many districts of the city. With relatively low crime rates for a city of Boston’s stature, most hotels offer a safe and welcoming haven for visitors.

In terms of food and drink Boston is famed for its Dunkin’ Donuts, with stands located in virtually all corners of the city. When the sun sets the city comes alive with a thriving nightlife catered to students, professionals, sports fans and tourists alike. Boston’s large Irish contingent means there are many authentic Irish pubs perfectly suited to a good old fashioned knees up!

If you’d prefer to shop until you drop the city’s most exhaustive shopping centres can be found at the Back Bay and Downtown Crossing. Meanwhile Faneuil Hall and Quincy Market in downtown Boston are two of the city’s oldest and most established marketplaces that are brimful of tourist eateries.

Boston’s Logan International Airport is the primary gateway for a number of global and domestic airlines and is situated a short drive from the most comfortable Boston hotels and attractions.

Put simply, Boston is a warm and friendly city and a region that the United States must surely be proud of.
